The Zambia University College of Technology (ZUT) has reached a historic milestone following the successful signing of its first-ever Collective Agreement between Management and the Copperbelt University Academic Union (CBUAU/ZUT) held at the ICT Centre of Excellence Building 1 at Main Campus in Ndola, said Dr. Derrick Ntalasha, President CBUAU/ZUT.

The Branch Union Chairman, Mr. Moses Msiska, said the Collective Agreement represents a significant step in strengthening industrial relations and promoting employee welfare at the University. The agreement provides for a 5% salary increment for all unionised employees, effective January 1st, 2026, reflecting the institution's commitment to fair labour practices and the wellbeing of its workforce.

Commenting on the signing, ZUT Management Team Leader, Director SMART Eng. John Silungwe described the agreement as a landmark achievement that demonstrates the value of constructive dialogue, mutual respect and collaboration between Management and the Union.

CBUAU General Secretary, Dr. Mwenya Kwangu, said, the agreement reinforces the University's commitment to fostering harmonious industrial relations, enhancing conditions of service, and creating a supportive working environment that enables staff to contribute effectively to the University's mission of delivering quality higher education.

Management expressed its sincere appreciation to the Union negotiating team, members of the Joint Negotiating Committee, and all stakeholders whose dedication, professionalism and cooperation made the successful conclusion of the negotiations possible, Eng. John Silungwe.

Branch Union Vice Chairperson, Mr. Wivans Mapasule, said, Implementation of the salary adjustment, including the payment of arrears, will be communicated to affected employees through the Human Resource and Administration Office.

Bargaining Unit Chairman, Mr. John Musonda, described the signing of the Collective Agreement marks an important chapter in ZUT's continued efforts to strengthen institutional governance, promote staff welfare, and cultivate a workplace built on partnership, transparency and shared commitment to excellence and working together for excellence in higher education.
