The Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence degree
programme has been designed to meet industry demand for graduates able
to develop software applications for use in industry and commerce. It prepares
students for diverse career paths in computing, which, in turn, require
different competencies.

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial
Intelligence degree is tailored to meet the challenge of realising the
government's vision of a Smart Zambia by the year 2030 by transforming the
country into an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) hub in
Africa. This programme follows the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM)
and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) best practices
and curriculum recommendations.

The emphasis of this programme is on
imparting the necessary knowledge and skills to analyse problems and provide
software solutions. The programme endeavours to encourage innovation,
creativity, and confidence in approaching Data Science and Artificial
Intelligence problems, and to foster an investigative approach to their solution
using a blend of programming, analytical, and practical skills.

Furthermore,
the degree seeks to develop skills in presenting computing work, the
interpersonal and organisational requirements associated with carrying out a
software project, and an appreciation of the technology's industrial and social
context.
